Depends, some are safe, some are scams if search online. It really depends.
Some travel agencies offer rentals.

Renting a vacation home can be very safe but it first depends on who you are renting it from. Make sure that it is a legitimate company or owner. The more documentation that they can provide you the better. Also, I recommend renting in a gated community, this helps avoid situations.
