Best island destination for a family vacation?
LarryC asked:
I’m starting to plan a family vacation and would like something tropical. What is the best island destination for a family vacation? Would like something a little different. So no “Hawaii” answers. That’s too easy!

Guam, its a great place to visit, I think.
make sure to bring lots of sun block, its summer year round there,
oh and Palau, beautiful place. I’ve never been there but I’ve heard a lot of great reviews about that Island.
hope that helps.

The best island vacation in the tropics for your family is Bali!!. I took my family there last August for a week and never got tired of the place there was so much to do and see and our children really enjoyed it. Great food, people and culture.
Try this website for the best places. Enjoy

three suggestions, all “a little different”:
1. new zealand — north island is great for sun, water sports, golf, four wheeling, horse back riding, etc. incredible food (hope you like lamb.
also lots of interesting and educational mauri history and culture that both you and the kids will enjoy.
south island is better for more of a classic outdoors experience, e.g. hiking, rafting, fishing, etc.
ideal trip would be to experience both the north and south islands.
nz is typically thought of as being too far for some, but it’s now a stright shot from sfo and the 13 hour flight can be booked over night. new zeland air was a very comfortable airline and there was virtually no jet lag (save for the full day difference.)
2. barbados — classic carribbean island. beautiful white sand beaches, water sports, world class golf, tennis, etc. also some great restaurants. bit of a hike from bay area given lack of direct flight, but all in all, well worth the trip. would highly recommend sandy lane hotel, one of the nicest places we’ve ever stayed. we saw lots of families with kids there, especially from the uk.
3. costa rica — though not an island per se, we’ve also heard fantastic things about costa rica and it’s unique combination of rain forests, jungles and coastlines as well and are looking forward to visiting one day.

I’ve heard very good things about Costa Rica, particularly if you’re kids are old enough for adventure outdoor activities.

No Hawaii, aren’t you Mr. Fancy Pants!
I have heard great things about the Cayman Islands from friends. Of course, they were on one of those sales trips so it was first class all the way.
Another cool thing is since it’s “international” you can do things like swim with dolphins and stuff…great experience for the kids.
Check out the site (a little cheesy) noted below…has an interactive virtual tour that is pretty good.
