I’ve been to the Grand Caymans. It was nice, just the people were rude. I have also been to Cozumel, it was nice also & the people were friendly there. It made a big differance.

I haven’t been to the Cayman Islands, but I’ve been to Hawaii three times and I highly recommend it. Maui is my favorite island, but Kaua’i is beautiful too. If you go to Maui, Kihei is the best place to stay. You can find condos for rent at reasonable prices and there are some fabulous beaches nearby. It’s about a 15 minute drive to Big Makena beach, or you can climb over the rocks from there to the clothing-optional Little Beach if you’re so inclined. You should also visit Lahaina (a fascinating old whaling town and a good place for a luau), the Maui Ocean Center aquarium in Ma’alea, the Maui Tropical Plantation, and Haleakala, the 10,000 foot central peak. The road trip to Hana is a must too, but be sure to get an early start and set aside the whole day for it. It takes that long to see everything, and it’s slow going on that winding road.
All I know about Grand Cayman is that Seven Mile beach is very nice, and if I were going there I’d want to be sure to go snorkeling or diving at Stingray City.

I’ve been to Hawaii a bunch of times to the islands of Oahu, Kaui, and the Big Island but never Maui. If you like being in a city with tons of things to do then go to Oahu. Honolulu is great and there is so much to do and so much stuff going on. It’s also easy to get around on their bus system if you are staying in Waikiki. The beaches are amazing, the water is crystal clear, great snorkeling, great surfing, and great weather. The mountains and natural scenery are just great and it has a very unique culture and is very different from all the other states.
Kaui is nice but small and very quiet. It also seemed cooler than the rest of the islands, maybe b/c it’s the farthest north.
The Big Island is cool too, much more tranquil than Oahu and the island is huge, about the size of Connecticut and much larger than any of the other islands. So much variety too. Parts of the island are desert with cacti, parts are a rainforest, parts get snow and are cool mountain climates, and everything in betweeen. Kona is probably the best part; it pretty much rains everyday on the Hilo side but it;s just random showers that pass through mixed with sun and not some all day rain event. Snorkeling on the Big Island is the best b/c it has the clearest water. But they don’t have many sandy beaches, much of the coast is volcanic rock. But you can also watch the lava flow into the ocean, which is cool near sunset b/c it glows.
Hawaii is the most expensive state to take a trip to from what I read, so Grand Caymans would probably be cheaper. But be aware that it is currently hurricane season in the Carribean and the Grand Caymans can easily be struck by one at anytime this summer so I would wait till after Sept to go there. Hawaii doesn’t get hit by hurricanes often at all, the last one was over 10 years ago.

Grand Cayman is one of my favourite vacation spots…. If you stay on Grand Cayman, Seven Mile Beach is the most touristy spot. It gets a little crowded and traffic is congested. You also need to learn how to drive on the “wrong” side of the street, as it is a British colony. If you want something a little more remote and tropical feeling, stay in Rum Point. There is an awesome beach side restaurant and bar and hammocks to laze in all day. You will definitely need to rent a car if you stay in Rum Point. If you are looking for a “party scene” Grand Cayman is probably not the way to go…. Not a lot of clubs or nightlife…. But if you are looking for a relaxing vacation this is the place for you…. I wouldn’t recommend staying on Little Cayman or Cayman Brac unless you are going for incredible diving, as there is absolutely nothing to do besides dive. Make sure you have the local specialty drink, Rum Punch…. It’s totally addictive! Have fun!

I’ve been to both places. Pricewise, Hawaii offers you a much better rangs of places to stay, places to eat. etc. Of course what time of year you plan to go and fom where you are flying from would affect the overall price. The Caymans are great for fishing, boating and other aquatic fun in the warm blue waters, and has some good nightlife. But the island in very flat and georaphically uninteresting. Hawai runs the gamut, from high mountains to rainforest, and also has the hawaiian indigenous culture. Good luck and have fun
