Moving to Hawaii Kai?

Sarah Elizabeth asked:

Hopefully in the summer of 2009 i will be moving to Hawaii Maybe later depending on how much i have saved up. But i was wonder if two jobs paying around 8 dollars an hour will be enough to rent a apartment or condo in Hawaii Kai on Oahu.

    No….not at $8 an hour….

Rent in Hawaii Kai for a studio goes for $2000 a month

and then up and up for bigger places….

not to mention transportation, and food costs….

    Good luck!!!

I think it’ll be tough to make a go of it on your own. Maybe you can share rent with someone? I just took a look at the classified ads in a newspaper from ~ 10 days ago that was in my room & checked on ads for Hawaii Kai rentals. There were only 4 advertised. All were 2 or 3 bedroom & rented from between $2200 & $2985. I suspect you could find a studio for less than $2000, but probably not a whole lot less.
