job market hard, you are on an island with over 1 million people on it, on an island that is 30 miles wide and 44 miles long. traffic very very heavy. for example 1 hour to go 17 miles. everything costs alot, has to be shipped in. scenery nice away from Waikiki, go to the North Shore. 2 br apartment about 2000.00 a month depending where on Oahu you will. Leeward coast many homeless and drug problems. i hope that you have a job before you decide to move to Hawaii, you will have a very hard time out there. especially if you are white, or Haole as the Hawaiian islanders will call you.

Not sure about the job market since I don’t work, but we are in a recession just like the rest of the nation. Living is HIGH. You’re lucky to find a decent place for a good price here.
You’ll be living in town, so the only scenery you have will be the beach unless you go out to Waikiki then you have the hotels and Waikiki beach. The farther east you go you’ll see Diamond Head and eventually see all the big houses since all of the rich people live down that way (Kahala downward, excluding Waimanalo).
If you get out of town you’ll see the mountains when you go to the Windward side. Out on the Leeward side it’s flat. You’ll get the North Shore up north.
I don’t live in town but it’s pretty crowded. Going into town in the morning and going home on the weekdays is rough, but you won’t have to worry about that: just a few slow spots here and there to wherever you’re job will be at. Downtown traffic is horrible.
I think you’ll like it here. The person above me is pretty negative and I wonder why.

tough to live there….you wont make alot of money and most likely need roomates. in many parts of Hawaii, the local parents never encourage their children to move out, so they may have 3-4 families under one roof!!! its not unusual to see 7 or 8 cars parked on the grass or in the driveways. almost all of those born or raised there, surely dont know better, all they might know of the mainland is las vegas or disneyland. so sad, small kine, island thinking!
