Which is the best hawaiian beach to watch sunset?

Ronq asked:

I have been planning a trip to hawaii with my family, but there are so many beaches to choose from. And for someone who has never been to Hawaii, I really don’t know which to choose.
I am planning to stay there for no more than a week. I want a beach that is not crowded and has best spot to watch sunset (perhaps facing west).
After doing research I am convinced that Oahu is the best place for the newbie. And sunset beach or north shore is the best place to watch sunset that is not over crowded. Also, I read that waves on north shore and sunset beach is big, which I don’t desire. what do you think?
Also, how much do I expect to pay for hotels and resorts?
Are there any condos or nice places to rent for one week for under $1000 (must be on the shore with ocean views)?
How much do I also expect to pay for the food and dining for 3 poeple during 7 day visit?
What is the best way to get to the north shore from the airport?
Please help me with these questions! thank you!

I would not think of Honolulu (Oahu) for quiet, uncrowded beaches, although the North Shore is like that, but there is not really any place nice to stay.
My suggestion would rather be Maui, and getting a small condo for 3 for under $1,000 (depending on time of year) is also doable. Package deals (air, transfer or car AND condo) are usually the smartest way to go in order to save money.
Food is typically expensive, since almost everything is flown in, so suggest buying things at supermarket (still higher than in the continental U.S.) and f. i. having breakfast, snacks at the condo.
If you still decide to go to Oahu, there is a BUS which goes around the island which is extremely inexpensive.

Uncrowded beaches on the West side, Yokohama Beach or any of the beaches along the Waianae Coast is nice and uncrowded because tourists don’t go out there. But just as beautiful and close to Waikiki is Magic Island which is by Ala Moana Beach Park.

So did you already choose Oahu? Or can you go with another island? If you can, I say go to Maui. One of the most beautiful sunsets that I’ve ever seen was at the Grand Wailea. I’ve lived on Oahu for thirty plus years but I’ve never seen a better one here. Especially if you don’t like big waves and overcrowded beaches…Maui is a better choice.

Oahu is the best place for a newbie to go for the first time. You aren’t going to be watching sunsets all day long, so enjoy all the fun activities that are available.

Yes, the western side of the islands will give you the sunset views, and you don’t need to be in your condo to watch them. Don’t worry so much about being right on the beach.

On a Saturday or Sunday evening go to Waikiki’s free “Sunset on the Beach” event. Watch the sun go down with all the other people as you wait for the movie to start.

Sunsets are enjoyable while you are alone, but I think, more fun when with a lot of people loving the same thing!

If you are set on Oahu, I’d go to the North Shore too.

Otherwise, A-Bay on the Big Island of Hawaii!! It seems every Hawaii photo calendar has a sunset shot of the fish ponds fronting that beach!!

Stay at a hotel or condo in the Waikoloa Beach Resort
